For many people, mediation is a very strange and uncommon thing. It is not magic, but it does work. In order for it to work, however, both parties need to be willing to fully participate. That means being honest with themselves and the mediator. Hiring a lawyer and going to court over the dispute does not require much participation because, in effect, you are giving the problem to others. With mediation, you retain control over the solution to your problem. With Resolutions One, the experience will look something like this: - We will schedule a date, time and place for the mediation. (We are willing and able to work up to ten or eleven hours during that day if that is what it will take to address all the issues. We believe that most disputes can be resolved in one day.)
- On the day of the mediation, dress comfortably and make arrangements for children to be cared for by others.
We will provide light snacks and refreshments. - Please bring any medications, or other provisions that you require.
- We will break approximately once an hour for about ten minutes.
- When you arrive at the place for the mediation, please be on time. We will have two rooms reserved and each party will be taken to a separate room.
- The mediation will begin by each party being paired up with a mediator. We will switch throughout the day. The mediation begins by getting a clear understanding of the issues and your positions as you see them.
- Once the issues and positions are thoroughly understood, we will start prioritizing them. This is where you may begin to make some concessions.
- We will also, with your express permission, begin to share some of the reasons behind your positions with the other party.
